Details A watching brief was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in May 2023 during groundworks for new houses on plots 11 and 12. Traces of rig and furrow visible on aerial photography (NO77SW0017) were located: the bases of five ridges were noted. Two worked quartzite artefacts were recovered. The first is a distal segment of secondary flake (26 x 21 x 9 mm) made of purplish-brown medium grained meta-quartzite. The second is a primary short end-scraper (41 x 42 x 22 mm) made of purplish-brown medium-grained meta-quartzite. The small quartzite collection is believed to form part of a small group of quartzite-bearing assemblages from the Montrose area. Quartzite artefacts were recovered during a watching brief for the entrance road to the development (NO77SW0017). A further watching brief is recommended for any further groundworks/topsoil stripping for other plots within the development.
