Period Notes

Period Notes Tower bears dates 1553, vault boss 1554 and completed in 1596. Venetian windows inserted 1870s. South wing added in early 18th century, enlarged 1894, burnt 1966 and rebuilt. Doocot early 19th century and rebuilt 1937. Yew hedges planted early 18th century. Listed 18/08/1972.

Architect Details The Bell family are generally thought to have remodelled the upper parts of the castle. George Bell died in 1575 and I and David Bell were at work in the early 17th C. South wing enlarged by R. G. Wilson in 1894 which burnt 1966 and was rebuilt by Schomberg Scott. Sir Thomas Burnett planted yew hedges.
