Details Former corn mill, which is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. These show a group of three buildings, the two to the north and east of the mill building since removed. The mill, dating from the 18th-19th centuries was remodelled in 1920, and converted to housing in 1993. Built of squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings it comprised a 2-storey and attic 11 bay main block, with a 3-storey block and a large pyramidal-roofed kiln at rear. The kiln vent is hexagonal, with revolving cap. Grey slate roof with ashlar coped skews, and cast iron downpipes. The central low breast wheel has been removed and the lade destroyed. A commemorative plaque affixed to the building reads 'Cowie Mill operated as a meal mill from the late 18th century until 1960. Parts from the milling machinary was used to restore milling machinery at Mill of Benholm (see NO86NW0002)
