Three small cairns were identified and surveyed during archaeological evaluation works by Guard Archaeology in 2021 (NO88NE0185) at Ury House Estate (NO88NE0104). The cairns (CA001, CA002 and CA003) were located at the eastern extent of the evaluation Area 3 (NO 85238 88022), to the immediate north and west of the Cowie Water within an area of pastoral fields northwest of Waulkmill. Cairn (CA001) measured approximately 5 m in length by 4 m in width with a height of 0.3 m. Cairns (CA002 and CA003) were located around 75 m to the east of this possible cairn and were likely related to one another. Cairn (CA002) measured approximately 4.5 m in length by 3.5 m in width with a height of 0.5 m. It was separated from cairn (CA003) by an apparent cut into the subsoil to its immediate south which measured approximately 5 m in length by 2.5 m in width with a depth of 0.5 m and was aligned east/west. Cairn (CA003) measured approximately 5 m in length and 3.5 m in width with a height of 1 m. Due to their close proximity these two cairns are likely related, but without further investigation it was not possible to confirm the nature and extent of these features.
