Farmstead, still in use, depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps, built on the site of Portlethen Castle (NO99NW0008). It is shown on the 1st edition OS map as a U-plan steading, with a smaller U-plan section to the west, both open to the south. The east range of the main U-plan projects to the north, and has a horse-mill attached. The north range projects to the west, and there are two rectangular buildings to the north and east. To the east of the steading are two adjoined L-plan buildings. On the 2nd edition OS map the steading has been altered to one larger U-plan, with various additions to the north, within the court and to the east range, including the horse-mill being replaced with a rectangular addition. A rectangular range, T-plan building and a well have been added to the south. The eastern of the two L-plan buildings has been extended, and a third building added adjoining the south elevation. Current maps show alterations and additions to all the buildings, and the well has been removed. There are three skewputts in the present farmhouse that are re-used from Portlethen Castle. One is initialled and dated 1630, another is dated 1683 and the third is undated. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey was carried out in 2017 prior to the proposed demolition of some of the farm buildings.
