Church and church hall. The West Church of St Andrew (also known as Langstane Kirk) was built in 1869 by James Matthews, originally as a Free Church. The 2nd edition OS map shows the church with a Sunday School on the Langstane Place frontage, now the church hall. The church is in Gothic revival style, built of stugged ashlar with a slated roof, it has a vast galleried nave, and is set back from the street to form a small square in front. The spire has a pinnacle at each corner, a gablet on each side, and four gothic aedicules in the lower edges of the spire. There are salient buttresses and tripartite pointed windows. The interior is galleried. On the 1st edition OS map this plot was occupied by a house on the Union Street frontage with a garden behind. To the rear is the Church Hall. Within the church is a war memorial comprising an ornately carved wooden pulpit with the names of those who fell in both World Wars, also a granite tablet and a Book of Remembrance.
