Viaduct built in 1866 by engineer William Boulton. It has a single segmental skew arch, and is built of bullfaced granite, with brick intrados and pinned rubble retaining walls to the approaches. With the Denburn Viaduct (NJ90NW0263) it completed the scheme of bridges to open up new areas for city development. The viaduct provided Union Terrace with a 'more satisfactory termination' creating the site for the theatre (NJ90NW0127), new church and library.
