Details War memorial and Cowdray Hall, designed by A Marshall Mackenzie and Son, added to the Art Gallery (NJ90NW0568) in 1923-5. It is the City of Aberdeen's memorial to the fallen of both World Wars. A lion sculpture in front of the corner quadrant designed by William MacMillan, and sculpted in Kemnay granite by lead mason James Philip assisted by George Cooper. The Hall was opened by King George V and Queen Mary on 29 September 1935. The memorial inside the hall commemorates the residents of Aberdeen killed or missing in World War I and II and other conflicts.
