The Forbes Monument which originally stood in St Nicholas Church. Designed by John Smith, 1830, it is a pink granite ashlar obelisk, with square plan base surmounted by three granite steps on a splayed base. There are recessed tooled grey granite panels to each elevation commemorating John Forbes of Newe and Charles Forbes of Newe, and the building of the Royal Cornhill Asylum (NJ90NW1195). John Forbes had bequeathed £10,00 for the building of the hospital.
