Site of a Second World War Z battery, designated ABZ1, part of Aberdeen's system of defence during World War II. It was a rocket battery comprising 64 twin barrelled rocket mountings arranged in an 8 by 8 pattern, with ammunition huts around each launcher, and a gun laying radar unit. It is first referenced in War Office Records in October 1942 and was operated by the Home Guard. On the west side is an associated hutted camp, visible on a 1945 RAF aerial photograph, which shows the remains of the rocket launchers as a regular pattern of pits. Nothing is now visible.
