World War II anti-tank blocks. In this small harbour south of Aberdeen at Cove, are a group of concrete cubes, which are remnants of the anti-landing defences from World War Two to protect a potential landing point. There are ten on the west side of the road, three remain on the beach and two on the south end of Balmoral Terrace, built into a garden wall and rockery. Tactically their purpose was to obstruct the progress of tanks, and to expose a tank's vulnerable underside to fire should it try to cross. Surviving traces of camouflage can been found on the anti- tank blocks on the west side of the road, where beach cobbles were employed to face the concrete. The blocks were also recorded during site visit in April 2023 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. This noted blocks along the revetment in front of a row of cottages and also two blocks on the seaward side of the road.
