Remains of at least one, and probably two, ring-ditch houses situated in the saddle due east of the White Caterthun fort (NO56NW0017). There is also a scatter of small cairns in the vicinity. All recorded during a field visit by the RCAHMS in 1989. The definite ring-ditch house lies at NO 5507 6611, about 40m north of the path leading up to the fort, some 100m west-southwest of the public road. It measures 10.7m in diameter over a ditch up to 2.7m in breadth x 0.3m deep. The ditch is narrowest, and shallowest, around the uphill (west) side. An entrance hollow opens into the ditch on the east, where there are also traces of a low external bank. About 35m south-southeast of the ring-ditch house, at NO 5509 6607 the path leading to the fort bisects what may be the remains of a second house. It is defined by a shallow groove and has an overall diameter of 14m. On the northwest there are traces of an inner groove set 1.5m within the outer. Finally, at NO 552 660, at least four small cairns lie in an area which is heavily crossed by trackway hollows on the west side of the public road. They measure between 2-3m in diameter and are about 0.2m high. A fifth cairn lies immediately south of the first ring-ditch house, and at least one other is at the edge of the trees 90m to the south-southwest.
