Period Notes Town Hall still in use. Designed by James Playfair, 1784-5 with alterations by David Neaves in 1840-1. (Designs by Alexander Thomson and Thomas Gibson were not carried out). The building has a piend roof and is platformed. Internal alterations 1847, to the designs of William Scott. Clock dates from 1804; bellcote demolished 1879. Formerly contained a jail, removed in 1843 after which the space was used for a coffee-shop, library and shops. The stained glass windows in the meeting room are Forfar’s War Memorial. They are by Russell of the Dundee School of Art and were erected in 1951. On the front outer wall of the building is a plaque commemorating 'the sojourn of the 10th Polish Reconnaissance group' October 1940 to April 1942.

Copies are sent to Mr Douglas and to Robert Graham. In one of his letters he gives a description of the building. 1785 GD 151/11/32
