Details Designed landscape of Cullen House (NJ56NW0003). It is a predominantly informal 18th century landscape planned by Thomas White (senior) overlying an earlier formal 17th century design. A survey plan of 1794 by Peter May shows the large formal grid of rides on the west bank of the Deskford Burn with a broad Principal Avenue extending southwest in line with the house. Between then and the OS 1st edition map (1878) the landscape was informalised. in the early 19th century the old village of Cullen (NJ56NW0004) was moved, a long west drive added from the house. Within the designed landscape are: castle motte (NJ56NW0006), Old Cullen House (NJ56NW0360), lodges (NJ56NW0118, NJ56NW0198, NJ56NW0117), ice house (NJ56NW0361), laundry (NJ56NW0120), stables (NJ56NW0122), walled garden (NJ56NW0067), sawmill (NJ56NW0394), Temple of Pomona(NJ56NW0044), iron bridge (NJ56NW0046), Claypots Bridge (NJ56NW0047), Ivy Bridge (NJ56NW0048), Lintmill Bridge (NJ56NW0115), enclosed garden (NJ56NW0418).
