Main Details

Primary ReferenceNJ62NE0026
NameKIRKTON OF OYNE
NMRS Card No.NJ62NE36
NMRS Numlink18112
Site Form Standing Structure
Site Condition Incomplete
Details Remains of a cairn situated on a gentle summit. Ploughing has created an irregular plan, and it has also been subject to some robbing and dumping of stones on the perimeter but it remains an impressive, substantial low cairn. It measures circa 23m in diameter and 0.7m in height. It was suggested (IAGS) originally have been a ring cairn comparable to that on Selbie Hill, Inverurie NJ72SE0039, but RCAHMS site visit 2001 concluded that there was no evidence to suggest this is the remains of a ring cairn.
