Details Site of alleged abbey, not an antiquity. This abbey is entirely imaginary. The Lands of Fintray were granted to Lindores Abbey by its founder David, Earl of Huntingdon, in 1198-9. No priory or cell is known to have existed, and there was certainly none at Fintray. The NSA describes the minister of the church digging up foundations of some buildings supposed to belong to the Abbacy of Lindores in Fife, when he was improving his glebe. The buildings are supposed to have been erected about 1386, from a stone bearing that date which was observed many years ago in the wall of the burial ground. These stones probably came from the abbey which lay on the other side of the road and under the graveyard. Foundations of its walls are said to be occasionally hit by when grave digging (NSA) 1845. The site of a supposed abbey is marked on eh OS map edition of 1888 as at NJ8407 1653.
