Site of a signal box, depicted on the 1923 revision of the OS 25in map. Just south of Aberdeen was the Ferryhill signal box, which was the point where the Great North of Scotland Railway's branch to Ballater left the main line to Dundee and Glasgow. This box was constructed completely of timber from ground level, with horizontal boarding. The gabled roof overhung slightly and along the front was a large number of three panel high windows that covered two thirds of the sides. Ferryhill remained in use following the closure of the Ballater line in 1967 right up until the new Aberdeen power box was commissioned in 1981.
