Details Alleged site of a battle said to have been fought between the Laird of Aberluthnet (old name for Marykirk) and the Laird of Canterland and Balmaleedie with their retainers. According to the Old Statistical Account (1796) they quarrelled over the siting of a mill (Spear Mil) 'but when this happened none can precisely tell'.
