House, dated 1780. It comprises a 5-window, 2-storey and attic centre block with two wings. Slightly advanced battlemented centre, with prominent blocking course. Harled and slated with elegant curved gables, double on the main house, single on the wings. It was the home of Robert Gordon (mapmaker). See also NJ82SE0034 for designed landscape. The Cheynes owner Straloch for 250 years, and in 1600 sold it to the Gordons of Pitlurg, a branch of the House of Huntly. The Gordon's Straloch must be the earlier house depicted on Rot's Military Survey map, 1747-55. The Gordons sold Straloch in 1758 to John Ramsay.
