Details Possible site of stone circle. Excavation in 1912 uncovered four pits, the two largest circa 0.91m diameter and 1.21m deep, and the two smaller filled with stones and bones. Several flints and a stone axe were also found. Now no trace. OS site visit 1968 noted that according to Mr Littlejohn (present at the excavation) the burial pits were 'in a circle' but he did not recall a stone circle. He also noted that numerous polished stone axes, barbed and tanged arrowheads and worked flints had been picked up in the area but since lost. The evidence for this being the site of a stone circle is purely Beveridge's (1914) statement. If he was correct, this could be the site of NJ84NE0002, but his statement may be merely an assumption, based on the knowledge of the site of a stone circle in the area.
