It is shown at this site on the 1st edition OS map consisting of a group of five farm buildings, five dispersed cottages and two lime kilns. On the 2nd edition OS map, two of the farm buildings are shown as roofless, the lime kiln to the north has been removed, while the kiln to south is depicted as 'Old Limekiln'. The cottages all survive and are in use, along with one of the farm buildings. One of the cottages is the A-listed Tomintoul Croft (NO19SW0057). A photographic survey was carried out in 2016 on the cottage named An Cnocan Dubh (centred at NO 14678 90431) prior to proposed alterations and extensions. Braeview (NO19SW0093), located to the north of Tomintoul Croft, is associated with the poet and writer Nan Shepherd during the 20th century.
