Memorial, built in 1879. It is a Celtic Cross memorial in memory of Princess Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse (1843-1878), inscribed 'Her name shall live though now she is no more' and erected by Queen Victoria. The monument is circa 10 feet (3 metres) high, with a rounded rubble base bearing an inscribed shaft with entwined foliate ornament, continued on to the cross head, and is flanked by two benches. It predates the Predates later ubiquitous use of Celtic cross design for war memorials, and is a partner of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg Gotha memorial cross, to Princess Alice's brother (NO29SE0057).
