Castle dating from the 6th century with 17th, 18th and 19th century alterations including the addition of a farmhouse on the northeast which is now the only part occupied. Unusual L-plan with re-entrant tower filling the whole depth of the angle and carried a storey higher than the main jamb with angle round and elaborate figured window detail. The main building is three storeys and attic, the wing same height but with mezzanine corresponding to the area of vault. The wing has a corbelled parapet decorated with head medallions and angle rounds. There is a simple main roof with crow-stepped gables. Vaulted ground floor, wide circular stair to first floor, first floor hall has rib-vaulting with sculptured corbels and bosses, compartments painted with armorial bearings. The hall roof is badly suffering from general neglect and water infiltration. There is a 16th-18th century walled garden, lowered in front of the castle (NO67SW0120). A 17th century dovecot lies to the east of the castle (NO67SW0122), and there are early 19th century stables to the west (NO67SW0118).
