Site of castle/mansion house. It is thought that an earlier castle occupied the site before a mansion was built circa 1771. The 1st edition OS map shows a complex building (named Blackhall) with orchard and formal gardens to the southeast. This building does not appear on the OS 2nd edition map which shows a new large building named Blackhall Castle a little to the east of the earlier building, and with outbuildings and walled garden to the south. This mansion was demolished circa 1947 and apart from a garden wall, no trace survives. It is shown on the historic OS maps within its designed landscape with associated buildings and features. The castle was used during World War II as a boarding school by the girls of St Margaret's School, Aberdeen. It was demolished about 1947. A small burial ground lies to the west (at NO 6682 9592), with a curling pond to its west (at NO 6672 9591), depicted on the OS map of 1888 but not on the earlier 1867 map. A gasometer stood at NO 6715 9583, ice-house at NO 6735 9593, stables to the south of the castle at NO 6703 9589, kennels at NO 6734 9625 and the home farm at NO 6734 9584 (NO69NE0093).
