Part of the Orton Section of the Great North of Scotland Railway (formerly Morayshire Railway), running northeast from Rothes Station. The Morayshire Railway completed the 3.5 miles of track from Orton station to Rothes on 23 August 1858. It is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, (1846 and 1888) though marled as disused on the latter. The line was closed to passenger traffic on 2 July 1863, and finally closed in 1866. Remains of a section immediately north of Rothes station is shown on current OS maps, the track over most of the line was lifted in 1907. A section of the line near Garbity and Collie Farm (circa NJ 31129 51848) was recorded during field survey in May 2022 ahead of a proposed overhead 132kV line (NJ25SE0078) : here it survives as an embankment 13 m wide and 2 m high. Further southwest the route is now farm tracks.
