A desk based assessment and walkover survey was carried out in May 2022 ahead of a proposed 132kV overhead line. The walkover survey targeted specific areas identified as having archaeological potential or sensitivity, and assessed condition of heritage assets identified through the desk-based assessment. An area of unimproved, rough grazing and moorland, between the Speyburn Distillery at Rothes and the Rothes III Wind Farm on-site substation, at the west end of the route, was subject to a full walkover survey as there was considered to be some potential in these areas for hitherto unrecorded sites or features to be present.
