Details Largely unaltered infectious diseases hospital complex designed 1936 in streamlined 1930s modern style by R. Leslie Rollo (and replacing an earlier infectious diseases hospital (NJ72SE0311) which opened in January 1897 in Cunninghill Road). Tenders for building were examined on 17th December 1937, and building began in 1938. Formally opened on 20th December 1940 with provision for 60 beds. Some demolitions (principally Isolation Block) have been carried out, but originally the hospital comprised essentially six large blocks plus a double villa, gate lodge and gateway, all arranged in a regular lay-out, with four blocks in formal lay-out around a quadrangular open area at the east end of the site. The nurses' home, part of the original complex, is two-storeyed, the north and south elevations both symmetrical, the north with shallow advanced centre and ends, central doorway. The south elevation has inner bays arranged in pairs with single storey semi-circular bays near each end. A photographic survey was carried out in 2017 prior to proposed demolition.
