Details Remains of a line of World War II anti-tank blocks, part of a line which extended from Foveran Links to Blackdog Links. Remains of 8-10 blocks made of concrete were recorded at NJ9799117991 by Defence of Britain Project. It continues into the Aberdeen City Council area (see Aberdeen City HER NJ91SE0003). In 1942 landmines were planted on the beaches near Blackdog; these were cleared in 1944. During the war Balmedie beach was used to defuse and detonate unexploded bombs from raids on Aberdeen. See also NJ91SE0092 (pillbox), NJ91SE0094 (pillbox). Site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey noted concrete blocks in/adjacent to the burn at circa NJ9795518078, and adjacent to the burn at NJ9768817406. In total SCAPE noted over 50 visible blocks, also anti-glider posts and occasional metal scaffolding posts along this section in the intertidal zone (see also NJ91NE0171, NJ91NE0172, NJ91NE0174,NJ91NE0176, NJ91NE0177, NJ91NE0178, NJ91NE0179, NJ91NE0180 Site visit April 2023 to the pillbox NJ91SE0094 also noted anti-tank blocks then exposed on the beach to the south.
