Details Country House, originally offices built in 1725, rebuilt 1781-5 by John Baxter, this incorporated into a new house in 1851 by James Matthews. The main part of this house was demolished in 1927, and the remains of the offices converted to a mansion. Baxter's front door is inscribed 'George Earl of Aberdeen 1785' and bears a grand segmental pediment broken by an armorial panel from the old castle (NJ93SE0001). The 1851 mansion had a recessed arched centre flanked by tall bay windows and angle turrets. The conversion in 1927 resulted in a two-storey house, harled and crowstepped with a small baronial round tower. See also NJ93SE0048 (Ellon Castle Park), NJ93SE0163 (walled garden).
