Statue, set in a fountain basin. The fountain basin was built in circa 1855. The statue was made by M Geiss, Berlin, in the late 19th century and was painted in 1929 and refurbished by Charles Henshaw 1986. The carved bronze statue is of a chamois deer, painted and life-like, and is standing on a rocky outcrop on a pink granite cubic pedestal with cast-iron lion mask spouts to each face. The statue is placed in a recessed, pink granite, circular basin on a parterre to the west of Balmoral Castle (NO29NE0023). The deer has a partner, also by Geiss, by the eastern parterre (NO29NE0058).
