Details Trial trenching by Headland Archaeology in 2020 (NO43SE0117) ahead of onshore transmission works recorded a deposit containing occasional animal bone fragments in Trenches 1-4. The depth of the deposit could not be established because of waterlogging, but it did not appear to be a cut feature. Further north, in Trench 7 patches of cinder and reddish sand were recorded which contained sherds of 19th-20th century pottery and animal bone. This may relate to construction of the railway.
