Trial trenching by Headland Archaeology in 2020 (NO43SE0117) ahead of onshore transmission works recorded two pits. On, in Trench 35 at the eastern end of this section, was 1.6m in diameter with a single, probably naturally deposited, fill and containing small fragments of post-medieval pottery, possibly 18th century in date. The second, in Trench 40 to the west was sub-circular, containing chunks of peat but no artefacts, though the morphology and fill suggest it is contemporary with that in Trench 35.
