Details Site of a gate lodge, which is shown on both the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. It is depicted as a small rectangular building within an enclosure. By the 2nd edition map there is an outbuilding to the west. The lodge was a single storey cottage of the early 19th century with a semi-octagonal, pedimented frontage with blind venetian window. It was constructed of whitewashed rubble and slate and demolished in the late 20th century. It was to the northeast of Careston Castle (NO55NW0002) and was just within the limits of the designed landscape (NO55NW0115).
