Site of cists as depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition maps Ordnance Survey map which state that 'Stone coffin containing human remains and an urn containing ashes found here AD 1856'. The Ordnance Survey Name Book states that 'in 1856, whilst a party of workmen were engaged on excavating a foundation for cothouses on the Kinaldie Estate, they turned up 'Several Stone Coffins' containing human remains, together with an urn containing ashes'. There are also records of four cists found in this area when removing a natural dry sandy mound circa 200 yards north of the Gouk Stone (NJ81NW0069), one being found in 1837 the others in 1854 when the mound was being removed to fill in the old canal. The skull and beaker from one of these cists were presented to the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland on April 14 1856 by Watt. No traces of cairns or cists was found by OS site visit in 1968.
