Site of an engineering works, founded in 1789 by William McKinnon and Co. It is depicted on the OS 1st edition as Spring Garden Foundry, and on the 1926 25in OS map as Spring Garden Iron Works. It comprised a group of buildings including a 2-storey office in French Renaissance style. The main entrance was in a 2-storey, 8-bay block with two gables to the street. At the rear were single storey workshops, including a 19th century foundry lit at 2 levels. Photographic survey of the site was carried out in October 1992 prior to its demolition; the site is now occupied by student accommodation. A gateway (NJ90NW1281) on Gerrard Street may have been related to these works.
